A.J. JERNIGAN HOUSE ("Las Ventanas")
Austin, Texas

The A. J. Jernigan House, known as "Las Ventanas", was built in 1875 for the Travis County treasurer and his family.  Descendants attribute the design of the house to Abner Cook, a Jernigan acquaintance.  A dining room and a “warming room” were added in the late 1880s.  In 1912, the new owner, Charles Capron, rebuilt the front porch and added a wood-framed kitchen and bedroom to the rear of the house.  In recent years, the house was used as commercial office space.  The current owner is restoring the house to use as a single-family residence.

The house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark and a City of Austin Historic Landmark.  To develop the design and construction documents, the firm worked closely with the Texas Historical Commission and the City Historic Preservation Office.
